His film songs were recorded on 78rpm record by the gramophone manufacturer, HMV, which was the first ever record in India. These records were made in Bombay (now Mumbai). The first song was recorded on 6 February 1939. The record was later re-released on vinyl. The sessions went on for 14 months. He sang with Manik Varma for the songs 'Kabhi Anek Aur Ekchhe Re' and 'Doob gali gam'. These were recorded by HMV on 14 August and 21 September 1939. The record was subsequently re-released on vinyl by HMV on 24 March 1942. HMV re-released his 'Doob gali gam' on 78rpm record on 5 October 1947.[13][14]
