The important thing is that the volume (E?) must be unmounted prior to backing up.Windows has no problem with this, since it detects the change and handles it directly. We too handle things correctly and we handle it directly. If the volume is already mounted with no "nobrowse" option, it will get a readonly mount and the read/write permissions will be removed. The backup will be placed on a different volume and this same process will be repeated, moving the backup to its final destination. If the volume was mounted with the "nobrowse" option, then all we do is change the perms to RW and the permissions are not removed. However, the volume is still mounted in RW mode. Thus, we need to unmount (by clearing the volume from the /etc/fstab) and mount the volume back in read/write mode after the restore completes.
I could not make minitool work to upgrade the volumes on two of my servers because minitool's ISO image files in the ISO directory were too small. The first time I tried the mini.iso, I had to abort the install because there was not enough space to finalize the install.
I placed the license file, distMaint.lic, in the same folder as the tar.gz and restored it to newer versions. I did not receive emails from VMware that the contents had changed and was afraid that these emails were being sent to the wrong email address. It is a pain to manually load each file each time. I was pleasantly surprised when I got the email NOTIFICATION that there was a newer version available.
I read that ejecting the CD/DVD as it is booted would not eject it and that you must unplug it without holding the eject key. If I had followed the exact instructions above, I would not have ejected the CD when I had finished the install. I, therefore, had a problem with VMware when I loaded the XP image back into the virtual machine. d2c66b5586
